Post by Lew PitcherPost by p***@csus_abcdefghij.eduI just got a new laser printer, brother 5250dn, & had used
yast to configure the 5250dn. For the default mode of duplex,
"no-tumble duplex" & "tumble" duplex modes are possibilities.
Hmmm. I thought that only IBM used those terms. Oh well, the world moves
on :-)
Post by p***@csus_abcdefghij.eduRunning suse 10, whate is the difference between the duplex
modes? 1st time I've ever come across such a selection...
"duplex" is printing on both sides of a sheet of paper
Front Back
+------+ +------+
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
+------+ +------+
"tumble duplex" will print
Front Back
+------+ +------+
| : | | |
| : | | |
| V | | ^ |
| | | : |

+------+ +------+
so that when you turn the page over at the *bottom edge*, the print on
the back of the page is right side up.
"non-tumble duplex" will print
Front Back
+------+ +------+
| : | | : |
| : | | : |
| V | | V |

+------+ +------+
so that when you turn the page over at the *left edge*, the print on the
back of the page is right side up.
Thanks for the info. I had set it to non-tumble as that was the next
selection up from none (no duplex); however it looks like the 5250DN
does tumble duplex "automatically". Apparently, the use of tumble
& non-tumble is for a manual flipping of the page?
The 5250D has built-in duplexing where it performs like my canon ip3000
in that, for duplexing, the 1st page get printed, the page is partially
ejected like one sticking the tongue out, pulled back & the 2nd side is
printed. It does look like the description for tumbling as done by the
printer. Apparently, the printer ignores the setting & does it correctly
to get the job done.
I think that the older printer places the pages onto a 2nd tray for duplexing,
like some of the huge copy machines. I'm not sure if the manual states that
the 5250DN does "tumbling" duplex but to be clearer, linux (yast?, suse?)
could add an "auto select" to the config listing. :-)
Thanks again for the info.
